Okay, I've got a scene (a couple, actually) in a cafe. Nothing fancy, just people talking. Hopefully, I can get the location for free, but my mate pissed off the owner a few years ago and I'm not sure how it will pan out.

My point being, should I have to pay for the location, what's a reasonable fee? This is the first time I've ever had to do anything like this (which is why I've left it 5 years since writing the script) and I want to make sure I'm not getting ripped off by some unscrupulous cafe manager with a grudge.

It is his/her caf? and if they want ?1000 well....That is what they want. There are no set standards and so it is almost up to them as to how low they will go.

    Good Luck

A year ago or so I got a cafe for free - They just told me I could use it when it was least busy. We occupied the joint for 4-5 hours. Although this was stretching it in my view (I had an inexperienced camera lady who screwed up alot). Guests ofcorse still came in... so be sure to check that when you film - otherwise guests will appear and disappear behind the main characters. So choose your angles carefully.

So if you get it - be effective

Be sure to have rehearsed and stuff so you can go in and just shoot the damn thing.

Also dont lie about how long it will take. Be honest.

Hope it works out for ya

ps: Also remember to tell them that they have to kill the music
